Dr. David L. Lowrie Jr.
Dr. David Lowrie Jr. has more than thirty-four years of pastoral experience, having served churches in the Dallas area, Wisconsin, Canyon and most recently El Paso. He is the past President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and is serving his second term on the Board of Trustees at Howard Payne University. He holds a B.A. from Baylor University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Divinity from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. David is an avid runner and marathoner, enjoys playing golf, and reading a wide variety of literature on study dates with his wife of 34 years, Robyn.
In addition to an active ministry partnership with David, including counseling and teaching Discipleship classes, Robyn is a university educator in English, ESL and Applied French language. David and Robyn's family includes four daughters, Kalie, Lorin, Jamie and Madison, two sons-in-law Dr. Phillip Scott and Jordan Villanueva, and two grandchildren, George Walker and Margot Rose.
Mike has over 30 years of business and ministry experience recently serving as Executive Pastor at Alliance Church in Lubbock. Mike is married to Debbie, his high school sweetheart, and has a degree from Texas Tech in Petroleum Engineering and a MA degree in Education and Administration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mike and Debbie have lived, worked and served all over the United States as well as three international locations in Africa and Europe. Mike and Debbie are the proud parents of three children and six grandchildren.
Candy Burden grew up in Oklahoma as the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister. She graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1992. She has a passion for teaching the love of Jesus to kids of all ages from all different background. The strength of the Children’s Ministry at FBCD lies in the intentional discipleship focused on creating leaders out of kids.
Candy joined the staff at FBCD in 2006 and has over 25 years of experience working with children and youth. Her husband John, a corporate pilot for XTO/Exxon, is her partner in ministry serving the church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Kidz Church leader.
John and Candy have three children, Racey, Rylie and Ridge.
Associate Pastor to Senior Adults
Gerre was born in Lubbock, Texas and grew up on a cotton farm in Lorenzo, Texas. Gerre holds a degree from Texas Tech and Southwestern Seminary. He has served as minister of music/administration for over forty years in church including Lorenzo, Texas City, Cleburne, Wichita Falls, Stephenville, Abilene. He is in his 6th year as our Pastor to Senior Adults and leads our choir in worship. Gerre and his wife, Jo, have two children, Julie and Matt, and four grandchildren.
Interim Music Minister
Growing up on his family’s farm south of Decatur, Ryan learned from his father and granddad what it meant to work hard and to serve others. As a kid listening to country and gospel music, Ryan became serious about learning music while in high school. It is there Ryan met his high school sweetheart, Amy. Shortly after they started dating Ryan made his public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in an old country church outside of Alvord.
Ryan began writing, recording and producing music during his college years. While becoming active in local church music Ryan and Amy married in 2001 and have made their home in Decatur. They have been blessed with three wonderful children; their son Ben, two daughters Gracie and Peyton Faith. All three currently attend Victory Christian Academy in Decatur where Amy is a teacher’s aide.
Ryan began serving as worship leader at Bethel Baptist Church in the old Audubon community in 1998 and then went on to serve as guitar player and worship leader at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Decatur from 2001 to 2008. Ryan later joined the worship team at First Baptist Church in 2010 and now currently serves as interim worship leader. Ryan oversees the music ministry of First Baptist and leads the worship team to bring a blend of traditional gospel hymns with relevant and meaningful contemporary worship. Ryan works alongside Bro. Gerre Joiner who leads the First Baptist choir.
Ryan is also currently serving as our Worship & Fine Arts Academy administrator. The academy is staffed by a group of very talented musical instructors who seek to find the best in their student’s ability and to help them discover the talents God has given them. It provides musical instruction to anyone in the community who is interested in learning how to server thru music.

Interim Youth Pastor
Ray grew up in Boyd, Texas where he was a leader in his school and community. He attended Dallas Baptist University and served in his first role of youth minister at the age of 19. He has over 13 years experience working with students in churches throughout North Texas. He has a huge heart for teenagers! He is passionate about developing relationships and investing in lives so that they will develop strong relationships with God. He officially joined the staff at FBC as interim youth pastor, to fill a need and has loved every minute of it. He is an avid disc golfer. His wife Jami, a DISD teacher, is his partner in ministry. Ray and Jami have 3 children: Maebry (13), Hudson (6) and Hayden (5)
