Day 19

Children of a Greater God

Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

Psalm 8:2

35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

Mark 9:35-37

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:1-4

In Mark 9:37, Jesus speaks of the importance of welcoming children, "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me." Preschool and Children's Ministries serve as a window that allows us to peer into the world of innocence, seeing unfiltered faith in children. Through these ministries, we gain a clearer view of the simple, profound ways children connect with God. Psalm 8:2 declares, "Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength....”

In preschool and children's ministries, God's strength is reflected through children, offering us a glimpse of God's strength through children's pure, untainted trust and faith. This mirror reminds us of our responsibility in preschool and children's ministry to nurture and safeguard children by sharing God's truth with them. Preschool and children's ministries act as a flashlight, illuminating the path of knowledge and faith. Through teachings and Biblical truths, these ministries provide the light of God's Word, like a flashlight shining a path, guiding children in the wisdom found in the Scriptures. "The good news means you relate to God based on what Jesus has done for you, not what you've done to prove yourself worthy" (Jack Klumpenhower, Show Them Jesus: Teaching the Gospel to Kids).

Pray for those who are invested and giving time to the children’s ministry. Pray for how you may play a part in supporting the church’s ministry to children and their parents. Pray that God would give our children’s ministry passion and creativity to teach these children about Biblical truths. Lift them up, asking God’s strength to empower them to serve with love and commitment as they foster the spiritual growth of the little ones entrusted to their care.

Application: Volunteer in kids' ministry, serve at a food bank with your children, read scripture, and let your children share how and what God is teaching them through his Word.
