Day 8

God is Creator

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the Bible, the very words of God, begins with Him as Creator. The One who is and was and is to come, looks onto an empty space and creates. And He doesn’t just create the heavens and the earth; He creates with us in mind.

Ephesians 1:4 tells us that “God chose us in Him before the foundation of the earth.” Before God created the land, water, or air, He was setting the stage for the greatest story to ever be told—the story of His love for you and me, that we may be holy and blameless in His sight through His Son, Jesus.

While His creation is miraculous on its own, what’s even more amazing is that God would choose you and me in the process, knowing full well we would choose sin over Him. Yet as God was creating, He was also creating a way back to Him.

As you read these words today, I hope that you’ll be encouraged to know that while we know God as Creator of the heavens and the earth, He is also the Creator of our redemption story. No matter what your life has looked like up to this moment, He created you and chose you. Before the dirt of the earth was formed, He was choosing you and making a way for you to come to Him.

In His very nature of being the Creator, every other attribute was also on display to show His unwavering love and grace toward you and me. It’s in this truth that you and I are reminded of the choice we make to follow Him.

And just as we were created and chosen by Him, we were created to reflect Him. Every word we speak, every act of service, every idea we bring to life is an opportunity to mirror His creative nature and reveal His glory to the world around us.

So may our lives be a canvas that points others to His goodness. May our work be done with excellence and humility. May our creativity remind the world of its Creator.

FURTHER REFLECTION:

  • How do you see God’s creativity reflected in your own life and the world around you?

  • What might God be inviting you to “create” with Him right now—a new habit, a restored relationship, or an act of faith?

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, Your creation testifies of who You are. Thank You for Your grace and mercy in our lives. May we remember Your love for us, even before the foundation of the earth was created. Lord, help us to be holy and blameless in Your sight. Instill in us a new love for Your creation and all of mankind who is made in the image of You. Amen.
