First Baptist Decatur is seeking a gifted and experienced Children's Minister to lead our preschool and children's ministries (birth through 6th grade). We are looking for a leader who loves children and their families, has a passion for sharing the gospel, and desires to build a thriving ministry that partners with parents in making disciples.

Position Details

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Executive Minister

Salary: $65,000–$80,000 (based on qualifications)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Minimum of four years of paid ministry experience

  • Experience leading ministries for children from birth through 6th grade

  • A growing, Christ-centered life marked by spiritual maturity and servant leadership

Primary Responsibilities

The Children's Minister is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the church's preschool and children's ministries.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing spiritual leadership for all preschool and children's ministries.

  • Developing a gospel-centered strategy that leads children toward salvation, baptism, and lifelong discipleship.

  • Equipping and supporting volunteers and ministry leaders through recruitment, training, and encouragement.

  • Planning and overseeing weekly ministry programming and special events including Vacation Bible School, camps, retreats, mission projects, and fellowships.

  • Partnering with parents to strengthen discipleship in the home.

  • Working alongside the Worship Ministry to incorporate music into children's ministry.

  • Providing leadership and oversight for the Mother's Day Out Director, Preschool & Nursery Director, and other children's ministry leaders.

  • Maintaining a safe, welcoming, and nurturing ministry environment.

  • Managing the children's ministry budget and recommending improvements to ministry programs, curriculum, facilities, and policies.

  • Coordinating volunteer scheduling and childcare needs for ministry events.

  • Performing additional ministry responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Minister or Pastor.
